This is a very popular series, and I guess there was even a TV show. As usual, I'm late to the party, but thought it right to start off with the first in the series. Verdict? Good. A fun, interesting and occasionally thrilling introduction to Harry Dresden.I have to say, though, Dresden is a dork. He's a wise-cracking wizard, but is rarely actually funny (which is sort of funny in itself). He cracks wise like I do-- and I never get any laughs. Go figure. And the duster? I've known people who have worn dusters. None of them were cowboys. All of them were dorks (but to be fair, none of them were wizards). Yeah, Dresden really isn't very cool, but that's kind of why I liked him.
I didn't quite get Dresden's relationship with Murphy. It didn't seem to make sense to me, like it was somewhat underdeveloped and just used for plot. I guess I can chalk that up to being the first in the series. Overall, not a deep read, but great fun. I'll be looking forward to checking out the others in the series.
